Why That Matters:

–  As we previously reported a few days ago, Aaron Hernandez (23 years old), was an ongoing suspect in the death of Odin Lloyd (an associate of Hernandez AND who was dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee)…. Lloyd was shot in the head on June 17th in the middle of the night by Hernandez’s house

–  Today at about 8:45am EST Hernandez was arrested and taken from his home in North Attleborough, Massachusetts in what appeared to be handcuffs (although no charges have been formally announced yet)

–  After Hernandez was arrested the Patriots released a statement that they were releasing Hernandez (the former Tight End) from the team stating “At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”

Other Tidbits:

–  Last August, the Patriots reportedly signed Hernandez to a 5-year contract extension that included a $12.5 million bonus.
